Epidemiology and biochemistry are important to counter all the misinformation in social media Dr. Sharon Inouye, a national expert in geriatrics said that one could not design a problem worse on elders than COVID. How providers and institutions overcome the obstacles that COVID presents is important information so that we can work together. Patient centered care is something that is easily neglected with medical recommendations so we include an approach to identifying what residents of long term care believe is important.

Target Audience
Professions - Nurse - RN, Nursing Facility Administrator, Physician, Social Worker

ACCME Objectives
  1. The learner will understand why pateint care policies have changed.
  2. The learner will understand why some changes have been harmful to elders health and how to compensate.
  3. The learner will describe how the changes in policies affect residents and their quality of life.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. The learner will provide more knowledgeable patient care on an individual level as well as a population (ward) level.

Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity education.

CNE Accreditation:

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and through the joint providership of Avera and USD Geriatrics Fellowship Program. Avera Health is an approved provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Alabama State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. A total of 4.75 contact hours can be received upon completion of this education activity. Attendance at the entire educational activity is required to receive contact hours.

Social Work Accreditation: 
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and through the joint providership of Avera and USD Geriatrics Fellowship Program.  Avera Health Provider #1029 is an approved provider of continuing education by the South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners. Social Workers will receive 4.75continuing education clock hours for participating in this course.

Nursing Facility Administrator:

Avera is an approved provider of continuing education for South Dakota through the South Dakota Board of Nursing Facility Administrators. This educational activity is approved for 4.75 hours for nursing facility administrators.
