Day 1:  8am - 5pm

Day 2: 8am - 5pm

Registration begins at 7:45 am.  Class will start promptly at 8am each day.  Lunch is on your own.

Overview
The Perinatal Nurse Practicum is a 2 day course providing education for the registered nurse regarding care of the woman and her infant throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Content for the Perinatal Nurse Practicum includes the following areas: maternal physiology, fetal heart rate pattern review, care of the woman during labor and postpartum, preterm labor, obstetric emergencies, hypertensive disorders or pregnancy, intrapartum and postpartum care of the diabetic woman and her infant, postpartum complications, care of the newborn, infant security, and infant loss/bereavement. Course materials are provided.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
OUTCOME: 100% of the participants will self-report an increased knowledge about the basic perinatal nursing skills and providing care to the perinatal patient and newborn at the completion of the session. 

  1. Gain knowledge and understanding on assessment of the laboring woman.
  2. Gain knowledge and understanding on maternal physiology.
  3. Gain knowledge and understanding on diabetes in pregnancy.
  4. Gain knowledge and understanding on intrapartum management of the diabetic mother.
  5. Gain knowledge and understanding on fetal heart rate monitoring.
  6. Gain knowledge and understanding on preterm labor.
  7. Gain knowledge and understanding on hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.
  8. Gain knowledge and understanding on obstetric emergencies.
