Obstetric Pearls for the Non-Obstetrician Series

The MARCH Center of Excellence in maternal health research announces a 3 month series that will discuss the first trimester of pregnancy, in particularly the pregnancy diagnosis, assessing abdominal pain and bleeding, and bridging to prenatal care.

The Avera Research Institute Maternal Health Research Center of Excellence (MARCH) provides a platform for researchers, tribal nations, rural communities, and key stakeholders to engage in bidirectional communication on maternal health, in particular drivers of mortality and severe morbidity. This live virtual session is the 1st session in a series of 3 sessions that will discuss the first trimester of pregnancy, in particularly the pregnancy diagnosis, assessing abdominal pain and bleeding, and bridging to prenatal care.

1. Discuss barriers to accessing culturally sensitive and patient-centered care in maternity deserts and FQHC's when a pregnancy diagnosis is determined.
2. Identify ways to collaborate as an interprofessional healthcare team to identify and address gaps in maternal care delivery at FQHCs, integrating cultural competency, safety, and quality improvement strategies to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality
3. Identify methods to assess and manage common pregnancy-related concerns in non-obstetric clinical settings, and effectively bridge patients to appropriate prenatal and postpartum care
