COURSE MATERIALS:

  • Course Materials must be purchased in advance by the participant and brought to class.
  • Each participant must have their own workbook. Workbooks are single use only and cannot be used for future participants. If the participant does not come with his/her workbook, participant will be unable to participate in the class. If you are an Avera employee, please contact your leader to obtain your workbook.
  • Intermediate Student (7th Edition) - AWHONN Fetal Monitoring.  Participants may purchase workbook from Kendall/Hunt Publishers by calling 1-800-338-8290 or going to the website: https://awhonn.kendallhunt.com  -  ISBN 9798765725702.
    • Cost for these workbooks is $120 per book (subject to change by the company). The course ID number is required when ordering through Kendall/Hunt.  If not listed here, the course ID will be emailed out to participants once it is available. Discount copies are available through the AWHONN store with your AWHONN membership.

Overview

Format:  Live In-Person

Skills taught and knowledge assessed include:

  • Maternal and fetal physiology
  • Interpretation of fetal and uterine monitor tracings
  • Evaluation of auscultated fetal heart sounds
  • Leopold's Maneuvers
  • Placement of fetal spiral electrodes and intrauterine pressure catheters
  • Evaluation of and strategies for enhancing communication

Expected Level of Learner/Intended Audience: This course assumes that the learner has previously completed entry-level/basic fetal monitoring education (Recommend at least 6 months experience). It is designed for perinatal clinicians who utilize fetal heart monitoring in the intrapartum setting.

Online prerequisite education is required prior to attending the one-day Intermediate Course: Participants will have access to complete the online learning prerequisite starting 30 days before the in-person course date with access ending one day before the in-person course. If the participant does not successfully complete the online prerequisite one day before the in-person course, the participant will be denied entry to the online prerequisite course and additionally not allowed entry to the in-person course.
