Overview
Upon completion of this education, the learner will have a better understanding of EMTALA and what that means as caregivers caring for the patient including responsibilities to patients and to facility.

  1. Discuss the intent of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).
  2. State key definitions used for EMTALA compliance.
  3. List the requirements for patient transfer.
  4. Explain the responsibilities for on-call coverage.
  5. Recognize possible EMTALA violations.

Accreditation

CME Accreditation Statement:

Avera is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing education for physicians. Avera designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CNE Accreditation Statement: 

Avera Health is an Approved Provider of continuing nursing education by the Alabama State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
