The 8th Annual USD Geriatric Symposium will be an interactive series of lectures, case studies, and discussions designed to bring interdisciplinary members together to learn with and from each other on topics pertaining to the geriatric population. The event will be held in-person and virtually.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the interrelation of the 4 Ms and why they are each important to providing Age Friendly Healthcare.
  2. Discuss Medication Reconciliation as it relates to geriatric patients.
  3. Discuss issues of hoarding in elders as it relates to the geriatric patient.
  4. Discuss how language matters when dealing with elder care and caregivers of elders.
  5. Discuss depression in elders and how it compares to depression in young people.
  6. Discuss social determinants of health as they relate to geriatric patients.
  7. Discuss driving assessment of elders, when and how to get the assessment, and how OT can help elders maintain their ability to drive.
  8. Review questions and cases involving geriatric patients and discuss legal issues of aging.
  9. Discuss how collaboration with the interdisciplinary team can lead to improved patient care.
