Description
The Institute for Diversity in Health Management, an affiliate of the American Hospital Association, recognizes that becoming a culturally competent health care organization is a critical component in reducing health care disparities. Join us each month as JR LaPlante, Avera Director of Tribal Relations, will discuss topics related to American Indian culture, spirituality, and patient care in a podcast format. Expert guest speakers will join him to cover a wide range of topics that will engage the learners in better understanding the American Indian's we have as friends, co-workers, patients and neighbors. Topics will address Tribes specific to the Avera footprint, Indian Health Services, Purchased Referred Care, Do's and Don'ts of Patient interaction, COIVD-19 and the Tribal communities, Public Health Research, American Indian Health Disparities, Traditional Healing Practices and much more! In this episode, Dr. Craig Howe founding Director of the Center for American Indian Research and Native Studies will join JR in discussing Tribes and Reservations in the Avera Footprint.

Accreditation

CME:

Avera is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing education for physicians. Avera designates this educational activity for a maximum of 0.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

NCPD:

Avera is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. A total of 0.75 contact hours can be received upon completion of this activity.

SW:

Avera Health Provider #1029 is an approved provider of continuing education by the South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners.  Social Workers will receive 0.75 continuing education clock hours for participating in this course.

Nursing Facility Administrator:

Avera is an approved provider of continuing education for South Dakota through the South Dakota Board of Nursing Facility Administrators. This educational activity is approved for 0.75 hours for nursing facility administrators.
