Overview
The presentation reviews standard clinical ethics principles and a starting framework for how to integrate clinical ethics considerations into a primary care medical encounter. Will share a list potential situations where ethical principles and concerns should be considered/addressed while providing primary palliative care.

Objectives
  1. Define 4(four) core ethic principles for providing primary palliative care.
  2. Provide definitions for some key terms
  3. Recognize potential situations where ethical principles and concerns should be considered/addressed while providing primary palliative care.
  4. Discuss four levels of incorporation of ethics into primary palliative care.
  5. Explore complicating factors that can influence the provision of ethical/appropriate primary palliative care.
  6. Evaluate a patient’s medical decisional capacity and discuss determination of Health power of attorney (POA) for health care.
  7. Apply the differences between Informed consent, medical decisional capacity, determination of competency, and health power of attorney.
  8. Implement questions to ask patients for determination of medical decisional capacity.
