Overview
Pharmacy Pearls for Prescribers provides up-to-date information on medications, developed by a multidisciplinary group of AMG primary care physicians and pharmacists from Avera Health and Avera Health Insurance Division. An interdisciplinary group has been working to develop educational materials to meet this need. In this series we will discuss Hematology related to: iron deficiency anemia and provoked DVT.

Objectives

100% of participants will demonstrate their knowledge of hematology care by passing a posttest with a score of 80% or better.


  1. Discuss stages of iron deficiency and underlying causes for iron deficiency anemia
  2. Identify oral and IV pharmacological considerations for iron deficiency anemia
  3. Review phases of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) management and develop a continuation plan based on transient or persistent risk factors
  4. Describe the anticoagulant treatments options and dosing influenced by patient co-morbidities
  5. Describe how a multidisciplinary approach can contribute to continuous and reliable patient care

In support of improving patient care, Avera is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

IPCE:  This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 1.0 IPCE credits for learning and change.

Physician:  Avera designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurse: Avera designates this activity for a maximum of 1.0 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
This activity has been approved for 1.0 pharmacotherapeutic credits.

Pharmacy:  Avera is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  Credit will be uploaded to the NABP CPE Monitor within 30 days after the activity completion.  Per ACPE rules, Avera does not have access nor the ability to upload credits requested after the evaluation closes.  It is the responsibility of the pharmacist to provide the correct information (NABP ID and DOB (MMDD) in order to receive credit.
