Pharmacy Pearls for Prescribers provides up-to-date information on medications, developed by a multidisciplinary group of AMG primary care physicians and pharmacists from Avera Health and Avera Health Insurance Division. An interdisciplinary group has been working to develop educational materials to meet this need. In this series we will discuss antimicrobial management related to: penicillin allergies: delabeling, challenging and desensitizing; asymptomatic bacteriuria: when to treat and when not to treat; procedural prophylaxis against infective endocarditis; maybe 7 isn't lucky for antibiotic treatment duration.

1. Discuss penicillin allergies and when to de-label, challenge or desensitize.
2. Distinguish when to treat and when to not treat asymptomatic bacteriuria
3. Review procedural prophylaxis against infective endocarditis
4. Determine if 7 days is really the lucky number for antibiotic treatment duration
