Pharmacy Pearls for Prescribers provides up-to-date information on medications, developed by a multidisciplinary group of AMG primary care physicians and pharmacists from Avera Health and Avera Health Insurance Division. An interdisciplinary group has been working to develop educational materials to meet this need. In this series we will discuss diabetes management related to: commonly used maintenance medications in COPD, uncontrolled COPD, smoking cessation, and asthma-COPD overlap.


Physicians
Avera is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Avera designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

 
Nurses (NCPD)
Avera is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.  A total of 1.00 contact hours can be received upon completion of this education activity. Attendance at the entire educational activity is required to receive contact hours. This activity can receive 1.0 pharmacotherapeutic credits upon completion of this education activity.

2. Discuss treatment options for uncontrolled COPD
3. Identify methods of smoking cessation
4. Describe the asthma and COPD overlap
