Have you ever wondered how decisions are made within Avera to allocate dollars to certain projects or equipment? Join us to learn the basics of finance and accounting, and learn how to apply these principles to capital allocation within Avera. This goal of this program is to build knowledge and skills in the areas of management, finance, and leadership in healthcare.

This program is reserved for Avera Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers only.

1. Explain the basics of financial statements. (Day 1)
2. Examine how business operations are reflected on the balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows. (Day 1)
3. Interpret financial statement information, making financial ratio analysis and analyzing long-range financial plans. (Day 2)
4. Discuss the interaction between operating performance and external funding needs. (Day 2)
5. Analyze how growth influences Avera's capital budget. (Day 2)
6. Discuss capital budgeting decisions. (Day 3)
7. Examine the time value of money, net present value and internal rate of return analyses. (Day 3)
8. Evaluate various proposals consistent with Avera's financial, strategic and mission-driven objectives. (Day 3)
