Videoconference: This conference will not be provided via videoconference.

At the completion of this conference, the participant will be able to discuss current issues in the clinical care and education of persons with diabetes.

1. Discuss the relationship between diabetes and mental health
2. Describe mental health concerns common to individuals with diabetes
3. Explain treatment options for mental health issues on conjunction with diabetes
4. Identify the key facts supporting the 2018 ADA Standards of Care Nutrition Recommendations
5. Distinguish between myths and facts related to popular diet approaches/nutrition guidelines
6. Discuss tips for diabetes nutrition counseling based on the 5 A model of counseling and behavior change
7. Discuss the concept of spirituality as it relates to living with a chronic disease
8. Identify strategies to facilitate spiritual development for coping with diabetes
9. Identify words that may be "problematic" as we talk about diabetes
10. Discuss the 5 recommendations from the ADA/AADE paper on language
11. Practice turning "problematic" words into ones that are "preferred"
12. Explore next steps of how to use this information in talking about diabetes
13. Describe the relationship between diabetes and cardiovascular disease
14. Review current blood pressure management guidelines
15. Review current lipid management guidelines
16. Identify key aspects of cardiovascular disease in the setting of diabetes
17. Discuss methods for gestational diabetes diagnosis
18. Explain complications of uncontrolled gestational diabetes
19. Describe the gestational diabetes treatment plan

Parking at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown is located:
          -Underneath the hotel (Look for signage) 
          -Surface parking in front of the hotel 
          -Back row parking at 8th & Railroad Center: 
  (Parking area will be roped off for our group with sign stating "Hilton Parking".  Look for yellow roping.)   
  -Overflow parking lot (south of 10th Street)

Avera is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
