This conference will not be provided via videoconference.

Overview

After careful consideration for everyone’s health and safety, Avera is canceling the Avera Trauma Symposium scheduled for Wednesday, April 8th.  
This event has outside vendors coming in and with travel precautions for COVID-19, it makes sense to be proactive and limit conferences and symposiums.  

We apologize for the inconvenience. We will keep you updated if this conference will be rescheduled.


ACCME Objectives
  1. Discuss updates in the care of the trauma patient.
  2. Discuss current treatment plans to prevent skin injuries.
  3. Identify barriers to providing care to the inpatient population.
  4. Discuss challenges in caring for the trauma patient in the rural setting.
  5. Discuss communication strategies that are crucial in providing optimal care to the trauma patient.
  6. Critique the multidisciplinary course of care for injured patients (2 separate panels throughout day).
  7. Discuss current treatment plans for geriatric patients with rib fractures.
  8. Discuss pharmacologic management in the geriatric patient post trauma/hospitalization.
  9. Identify strategies for successful transition from hospital to home for the geriatric trauma patient.
  10. Discuss current treatment plans for patients with mild TBI.
  11. Discuss current treatment plans for patients with hand injuries.
  12. Describe the events of the tornado and its effect on Avera Behavioral Health Center.
  13. Discuss the process of evacuating 102 mental health patients from Avera Behavioral Health Center at 1:30 AM.
  14. Describe the challenges identified in the Avera Heart Hospital & Avera Behavioral Health Center and how staff prepared for the approaching weather systems.
  15. Describe challenges of evacuating 102 mental health patients from Avera Behavioral Health Center at 1:30 AM.
  16. Identify the changes made at Avera Heart Hospital in preparation for disaster.
  17. Discuss the reaction of staff who were working during the tornado.
  18. Discuss the common psychological reaction to a traumatic event.
  19. Describe resources available in our region when needing trauma counseling.

Accreditation

Avera is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing education for physicians. Avera designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit per session. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Avera is an Approved Provider of continuing nursing education by the Alabama State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. A total 6.75 contact hours can be received upon completion of this activity. Attendance at the entire educational activity is required to receive contact hours.

The South Dakota Board of Pharmacy has approved this educational activity for 6.5 contact hours. Program number: SDEC020-026.

EMS:

Application for EMS training hours will be made to the South Dakota Department of Health.
