The 31st Annual Trauma Symposium is designed to highlight current evidence-based concepts and technology for the evaluation, diagnosis and acute care management of the trauma patient throughout the continuum of care.

Objectives
  1. Discuss changes and updates occurring at the state and regional level.
  2. Highlight the importance of performance improvement strategies and how they relate to caring for the trauma patient.
  3. Identify evidenced-based care strategies that maximize functional independence, cognitive recovery and quality of life for individuals following a traumatic brain injury.
  4. Review the latest ACS best practices guidelines for chest wall trauma.
  5. Critique the multidisciplinary course of care for injured patients.
  6. Discuss strategies related to anesthesia care to enhance patient safety, optimize hemodynamic stability and improve efficiency when caring for the traumatically injured patient.
  7. Review the latest best practices guidelines for open fractures when caring for them in the emergency department.
  8. Discuss important concepts of resuscitation including stop the bleed and limiting crystalloids.
  9. Discuss treatment options for select neurological injuries.
  10. Discuss treatment options for select eye injuries.
  11. Discuss treatment options for select maxillofacial injuries.
  12. Describe the role of EMS in caring for trauma patients.
  13. Identify hospital barriers for EMS when caring for trauma patients.
  14. Highlight the resources available via telehealth when caring for trauma patients.
