Overview
This educational day will provide participants an opportunity to hear current topics in infection prevention and to network with other infection preventionist peers. This activity will lead to an improved consistency and competence in infection prevention and control practice.

Objectives
 80% of learners will self-report a knowledge gain on current regulations and guidelines and be able to apply team based concepts to their own practice by end of the event.

  1. Discuss facilities’ strengths and weaknesses are in infection prevention and control(Barten)
  2. Discuss what is involved in an Infection Control Assessment and Response and what facilities can do to improve their infection prevention and control program (Barten)
  3. Increase knowledge on proper instrument handling, transport, cleaning, and disinfection. (Rodriquez)
  4. Establish the definition of urinary tract infection (Walker)
  5. Review the focused assessment of urinary tract in older patients. (Walker)
  6. Discuss management strategies. (Walker)
  7. Demonstrate available resources in infection control and how to use them in everyday practice. (Danko, Fast)
  8. Describe core isolation measures for measles in different clinical settings ( Lim)
  9. Understand the implications of measles as a disease and the importance of vaccination in its prevention (Lim)
  10. Increase awareness that measles is still a very tangible infectious disease condition that requires everyone’s cooperation to control (Lim)
  11. Describe the clinical presentation of measles (Lim)
  12. Describe the epidemiology, risk factors, and clinical presentation of Candida auris infections. (Hsu)
  13. Understand challenges associated with treatment of Candida auris infections. (Hsu)
  14. Understand the infection prevention and control measures that can be employed to limit the spread of Candida auris. (Hsu)
  15. Discuss CDC core elements for Antimicrobial Stewardship and how Infection Preventionist can collaborate. (Hein)
  16. Review recent Drug Resistant Organism investigations and identify HAI-Related Resources (Koenecke)
  17. Review and discuss roles and responsibilities in order to control infection rates within the healthcare setting.
  18. Review and discuss how teamwork can achieve safe and reliable care.

  Nursing Facility Administrator:  Avera is an approved provider of continuing education for South Dakota through the South Dakota Board of Nursing Facility Administrators. This educational activity is approved for 6.25 hours for nursing facility administrators.
