Overview
The Avera Brain & Spine Institute Conference participant will partake in activities and sessions that will enhance collaboration between primary and specialty care providers in caring for individuals with neurological disorders.

Objectives
  1. Review the pharmacology of the new oral anticoagulants
  2. Explain the benefits and risks of anticoagulation therapy
  3. Describe how to improve management of complications from anticoagulation therapy.
  4. Review new agents used in stroke prevention.
  5. Review the genetics of clopidogrel metabolism.
  6. Discuss the role of pharmacogenetic profiles in management of clopidogrel.
  7. Review the current literature about indications of carotid stenting.
  8. Identify patient selection for carotid stenting.
  9. Review challenging cases of carotid stenting.
  10. Discuss recommendations concerning glycemic control in stroke.
  11. Explain the multifaceted relationship between hypertension and stroke.
  12. Review the DAWN and DEFUSE trials.
  13. Identify criteria in patient selection for acute thrombectomy.
  14. Review challenging cases of acute stroke treatment.
  15. Discuss the process of nonsurgical treatment for back pain.
  16. Explain the appropriate imaging order for back pain.
  17. Differentiate interlaminar and transforaminal epidural injections.
  18. Differentiate facet injections and medial branch blocks.
  19. Recognize when surgical consultation is appropriate for back pain.
  20. Explain the Physical Therapy Rehabilitation triage process for patients with back pain.
  21. Discuss the Physical Therapy Evaluation and Plan of Care for patients with low back pain.
  22. Identify psychosocial factors that can impact outcomes and how all healthcare professionals can help.

CME Accreditation Statement: 
Avera is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Avera designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6.8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

CNE Accreditation Statement:
Avera Health is an Approved Provider of continuing nursing education by the Alabama State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.  A total of 6.8 contact hours can be received upon completion of this education activity.  Attendance at the entire educational activity is required to receive contact hours.
